Welcome to the ADTC MAY issue of Barks & Bytes

Welcome to the Allentown Dog Training Club May newsletter, BARKS & BYTES. This is going to be a very busy and exciting month with our annual point show held at Orchard Hill Training Center in Barto in conjunction with the Berks County Dog Training Club. Our show will be on Saturday May 16 with Berks on Sunday, May 17. If any of our newer members have never been to an obedience/rally trial, this would be a great time to attend as it is not far from Macungie. And better yet, VOLUNTEER WHEN ASKED. Events like this do not run by themselves but take many hands to pull it off. Even though both Clubs are involved we need help setting up the rings with the gates and jumps, stewards and all the other things that go on these two days and tearing them down.

And if we might add, better yet, come visit and cheer our members on. For those who are taking classes watching and learning what is going on, will help you understand why your instructors are telling you to do certain things. Dog shows are like a dance. You enter the ring with your partner depending on you to tell him or her where to go it within the ring and what to do. You have practiced the exercises many times (hopefully) but you also need to practice where to go and set up for the next exercise. So if you are thinking of entering your dog, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GO TO A SHOW SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON THERE. If you have any questions, your instructors will help you.

We also want announce that we will have six meetings a year as per the change to our constitution. The next one will in June at the picnic and the Awards. The next meetings after June will be October, November and December at the Christmas Party to complete nominations. Most will have a ZOOM option except June and December. Last month we did not get any ACHIEVEMENTS. It was a long winter but now with spring breaking out shows will be starting up. However this month we are going to honor our
members who were invited to the AKC National Obedience Championship and the AKC Rally National Championship whether they are planning on attending or not. The AKC honored them by including a certificate with their invitation. Do make a copy of it to keep for your dog’s Obedience/Rally Journey—it is a wonderful keepsake. We might also add that there was one member who not only was invited to the NOC but she was also invited to the RNC! Quite an Accomplishment!

Enjoy the BARKS & BYTES.

– all the best, Jacqui
